Alicudi is a tiny island only two and a half kilometres wide. A small (steep!) uncontaminated paradise off the north coast of Sicily. Spring and autumn offer a host of wild flowers and migrant birds. Summer brings the heat of the Southern Mediterranean and sparkling seas. All year round there is a culture touched by Greeks, Normans, Romans, Africans, and, of course, Sicilians. The islands were a major grain producer and an important strategic passing point for the peoples of the past.
